Histogen Inc. is a tissues engineering company that utilize newborn fibroblast cells in their regenerate medicine. To efficiently culture fibroblast requires finding the optimal conditions to culture these cells; this is can be a costly process for large-scale bioreactors. Thus Histogen set out to build miniature scale bioreactors to test different growth condition and for data collection.This miniature scale bioreactor is constructed with cost efficient materials, such as 15ml conical tube as the column body. And various sensors such as temperature, pH and gas sensors are used to monitor these reactors. With the curtain 15ml conical tube bioreactor, gas data and medium data has been collected. The average bubble size, bubble rate, and flow rate of gas are determined. And both DMEM and animal free serum medium’s foaming problem was solved with anti-foam.
